Weathervane's Approach
Joint Application Development – A Leadership Led Co-Design Approach
Weathervane Consulting has a three-pronged approach to operations improvement. Initially it is understanding “The Work”, i.e. how are things done around here. Second, we look at the Tools and Techniques used to manage the work, often referred to as the Management Operating System (MOS). Third, and often the first amongst equals, is Behaviour and all aspects that drive behaviours in the workplace.
Investigating and understanding “The Work”, involves an immersive analysis of daily operations, which includes:
How is the work done on this site?
Processes, procedures, activities
Touch points, hand-offs, timelines, responsible people
Customer-supplier relationship and the requirements between them – safety, quality, cost, time
People, positions, roles & responsibilities
Organisational hierarchy, levels of work, management accountabilities
Prevention and mitigation
Standards and lost time.
The Management Operating System (MOS) consists of the Tools and Techniques used to manage the Work, and includes aspects of:
Tools and Technique to drive change
How we manage the business
Forecast, Plan, Schedule, Measure & Control, Report and Corrective Action
Alignment with strategic objectives
Measurement, metrics, KPIs
Identifying negative variances, measuring through plan/actual/variance
Root Cause Analysis (RCAs) and corrective action.
Addressing the people aspect of operations management, by focussing on and addressing Behaviours.
This encompasses all aspects of change management, including:
Behaviour models
Role definition
Walk-the-floor plan, the perfect day and other techniques
Communication
Coaching, training, mentoring
Performance management, change management
Enterprise architecture and levels of work

The What, When, Where, How, Why and Who of managing the business,
RACIs

“Here is Edward Bear coming downstairs now, bump, bump, bump, on the back of his head, behind Christopher Robin.
It is, as far as he knows, the only way of coming downstairs, but sometimes he feels that there really is another way, if only he could stop bumping for a moment and think of it. “
